When the servant of the man of the God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city.

"Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked.

"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."  And Elisha prayed, "O Lord, open his eyes so he may see."

Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.  II Kings 6:15-17

When my oldest child and his four cousins left for college, I wanted to stay connected to them and speak God's word into their lives.  I prayed God would open their eyes so they would see God in the world and see His power.  So I started sending Bible verses and devotionals to them, pointing out the horses and chariots of fire all around.  Eventually other people asked to be added to the email list, so after several years I decided to blog the verses.  The posts are often still directed to college students and young adults, but I include all of us now.  If these posts help open your eyes to see God, and the hills full of horses and chariots of fire, thank Him.

Kelly King Walden, married to Wayne Walden since 1985.  Native of Kentucky, graduate of Freed-Hardeman University and The University of Alabama.  Intermittent English teacher, professional ACT tutor, owner of ACT Prep Workshops.  Former Women's Campus Minister.  Mother of four:  Ryson (b.1992), Cason (b.1995), Michael-Ellen (b. 1998), and Kalkidan (b.2000, joined our family 2013).

I became a follower of Jesus in 1976.  I grew up in the Church of Christ and belong to an ecumenical CoC in Paducah, Kentucky.  I love to teach about God and singing hymns with a group is probably my favorite activity.  My favorite Bible passage is the one quoted at the top of the page.  My favorite color is periwinkle with aqua and coral close behind.  My favorite chord is A minor.  My favorite music is from the 70's but I also love old American folk songs.  My favorite author is Laura Ingalls Wilder with John Steinbeck and Jane Austen tied for second.  I also love young adult fiction, especially The Giver series and Harry Potter.  My favorite artists are Maxfield Parrish and Albert Bierstadt. My favorite foods are crab legs, catfish, and egg custard pie (without the nutmeg on top).  I love picking blueberries.  I also love going to camp as a counselor in the summer.  We are fans of Camp Barnabas and encourage you to support it.

I have been very inspired by the life stories of Keith Green and Jim Elliot/Steve and Nate Saint and by the writings of Philip Yancey.  I am a fan of the music of Andrew Peterson, Jeremy Casella, the old Newsboys, and my kids Cason Walden and Michael-Ellen Walden.  For many years, I have loved the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins.   He would be the primary influence on my own poetry.  In addition to this blog and the poetry, I have written three books, but they are not published.  Public speaking is the one thing I enjoy more than writing.  If you are looking for a speaker for your event, let's talk!
