Gratitude: Crescent Moon

Gratitude: Crescent Moon

I am thankful for crescent moons. The one tonight was bright and full and golden. The one several nights ago was fine as a spider web, pale pink, barely above the western horizon – so large – but still so thin it was barely visible. The pink sunset reflected in it caught my eye. And then my eye craved to see it. I kept watching as we drove, waiting for breaks in the trees along the highway to catch glimpses of this delicate moon. What shape is so lovely as a crescent? The perfection of the curve, the partial circle – the incompleteness of it creates its own sense of infinity, possibility, imagination, but the perfection of the curve evokes a sense of completion that satisfies and pleases us. And when that beautiful crescent glows, as our moon does, our pleasure in seeing it pours over our edges into pure delight. And now that the sun goes down early, we have more time to enjoy it : )

“The day is yours and yours also the night; you established the sun and the moon.” (Psalm 74:16)

“Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession?” Song of Songs 6:10
